History of the Mural Project

This logo was designed by Ian Austin and Lawrence Basso, teenaged muralists of the "Youth Mural Project"

During the summer of 1998 the muralists worked with the Otsego County Office of Employment and Training to hire 6 young people to paint a mural at the Wilbur Park Handball Court.

The 8 week project was run by Jennie Williams with able assistance from Cynthia Marsh.

ANDY MASON of the AUDOBON SOCIETY took us on a great field trip to Emmons Pond Bog to research indigenous birds for our mural. His help was invaluable in understanding our local birds and advocacy for our local habitats and birds.

We discovered that the red tailed hawk, the blue heron, the pileated woodpecker (otherwise known as Woody the Woodpecker) and other beautiful birds live inside the actual city of Oneonta.
